Most Filipino’s have a short term mindset instead of preparing for a relaxing future, they tend to enjoy life in the short term while suffering in the end. An investment mindset and a long term vision is what lacking in the Philippines.
We asked our clients in San Jose Financials website (www.sanjosefinancials.com) and asked them,  “ What is the best investment for you?”.  80% answered  they prefer to put it under time deposit.

Financial literacy is too low in the Philippines. The Majority of Filipino’s is intimidated when they talk about stocks, bonds or other investment materials that is available. So what are the factors for us to retire early?
If we talk about retiring, there are other factors you need to consider. Spiritually and mentally, a person should consider asking yourself if you are ready to have a life of no work.  You have to understand the when you decide to retire, every day is “ Sunday”.
 Related topics:
Being ready financially is easy to compute. We always do that in here with SJF computing the readiness of our clients in retirement and preparation of funds. However,  we should know the right perspective. It is not with the age but with the financial readiness and proper mindset is a sign when you are ready to retire.
What are the signs that you are ready for retirement?
  1. Following a Plan
  • Being retired involves discipline.  If you have a plan when you are playing games or sports, isn’t that logical to have one for your wealth as wealth ?
( visit www.sanjosefinancials or call for a free consultation 798.8111)
  1. You are fully covered with your risk
  • From your life for your health,  Your risk for you and your family is fully covered
  1. Your children are financially independent
  • Seeing your children grow and worry free is every parents dream.  You are ready to retire if you see your kids fully independent and well covered.
  1. Almost no debt.
  • You are ready to retire if you see your house, car and other loans fully paid.
  1. Your investments can sustain your everyday
  • You are definitely ready when you see that you can survive by just your investments.
Everyone has a different standard. A retirement plan for Mr. Guitirez can’t be fit for Mrs. Salvon. There is no amount that can tell you that you are ready for retirement.  Filipino’s often tend to look for the value of income as the basis, however the secret formula there is not only income but several financial factors.

www.sanjosefinancials.com

These days, it seems as though almost everyone has an idea of how you can get ahead as an investor. However, no matter how good the investment advice sounds, you need to do a gut-check. Can you trust this person? And why is he or she sharing such a great tip with you?

While you can listen to the investment ideas put forth by just about anyone, it’s another thing to whole-heartedly trust someone else with your money. Before you take the plunge, carefully examine the situation and the fundamentals, and then reconsider. Here are 5 people you should be wary of when they are giving you investment advice:
1. Family ( Related Topic: What is the best investment for you? )
It’s tempting to get in on that “hot” tip that your brother-in-law is offering, or get in on the bottom floor on that “investment opportunity” Your cousin is involved with. Unfortunately, too often, your family members don’t really understand investing. Like many others, they are following the herd, and that “hot” stock may be in bubble mode.
investmentEven worse is the possibility that your family member has been taken in by an investment scam. Going in can mean that you are caught in the trap, too. Before taking the advice of a family member, review his or her track record with finances, as well as remind yourself that your family member probably doesn’t have the know-how or credentials to be giving investing tips.
2. Strangers ( Related Topic: how to reduce debt? )
Why would a stranger go out of the way to give you great investment advice? In this category are those emails you receive about penny stocks and other “opportunities.” Also, be wary of taking advice from strangers you meet in social settings. He or she might be bragging about his or her investing prowess, but you don’t really have any proof that there is a real performance capability there.
3. Co-Workers ( Related Topic: Legal Forex Scams)
Unless you work in the investment industry, and your co-workers are all analyzing the merits of a particular investment, your co-workers probably aren’t the best people to turn to for financial advice. Instead, your co-workers are likely just behind the curve, buying when everyone else is, and selling in panic when things go south.
On top of that, co-workers are often sources of investment scams. They get taken in by scams, and then ask you to participate. They may be in earnest about the “opportunity”, but that doesn’t make you feel better after you’ve both been duped.
4. Media Talking Heads ( Related Topic: How to reduce your debt? )
It may be fun to watch Jim Cramer’s antics, but it’s important not to take your advice from media talking heads. Financial media don’t exist to inform investors. The primary goal of the financial media is to make money; any education or useful information provided to investors is merely a side product.
One of the best ways to make money is to sensationalize things. Media talking heads try to draw you in by convincing you that something is practically full-proof, or by whipping up fear about the imminent disaster. Making investment decisions based on these extremes presented by the media can lead to big losses to your portfolio.
Take the news with a grain of salt. Instead, you are better off following your own investing plan designed for the long haul, and ignoring the noise from the TV screen.
5. Brokers and Other Wall Street Types
( Related Topic: Risking your life with brokers and advocates)
Going to a stockbroker for advice seems like a slam dunk. After all, these folks know all about investing. Unfortunately, Wall Street types probably don’t have your best financial interests at heart. Brokers are, on a basic level, salespeople. This means that they are trying to get you to buy products that will earn them a better commission.
Whether it’s someone at your local bank, or a broker with an official firm, the reality is that these advice-givers only have to recommend something that is “suitable.” And suitably isn’t the same things as “best”.
If you want solid advice from a professional, consider using a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) or a fee-based financial planner. The RIA has a fiduciary responsibility under the law to look to your interests ahead of the commission, and a good financial planner that isn’t paid by commissions can offer mostly unbiased advice.

Most of us loves to travel abroad, but travelling is costly. So what is the answer to help you travel at a cheaper price? BACKPACKING! Here are some data's that can help you prepare for backpacking.

Data and tour guide by traveltour.com

1.  Mumbai, India

Even more expensive than Delhi, Mumbai feels like a shock this far down the list, but perpetually expensive hotels and no real hostels make this city pricier than you might expect. Fortunately, one can see the main sights in a few days or less, so it’s a good idea to minimize time in Mumbai and then head out to someplace less insane as quickly as possible.
  • Currency: Indian rupee
  • Cheap/good hostel: Anjali Inn – 800/night
  • Transportation: 36
  • Meals: 312
  • Drinks/Entertainment: 240
  • Attractions: 250
  • Daily Backpacker Index: INR1,638 = US$29.66/day

Related Topics: Know your goals in life

2. Pokhara, Nepal (cheapest)

Pokhara BoatsWhile Kathmandu is where most visitors land first, it’s fairly hectic and its sights can be seen in only a couple days. So most people head quickly to Pokhara, which is Nepal’s tourism hub and the starting point of many fabulous treks. Fortunately, it’s not only more pleasant than the capital, but also cheaper in most respects, so it’s a great place to linger if you have time. Guided treks in the nearby mountains can be expensive, so it’s nice that just lingering in town is dirt cheap.
  • Currency: Nepalese rupee
  • Cheap/good hostel: North Face Inn – 259/night
  • Transportation: 80
  • Meals: 384
  • Drinks/Entertainment: 450
  • Attractions: 100
  • Daily Backpacker Index: NPR1,273 = US$14.39/day

Related Topics: Tips on how to save money

3. Hanoi, Vietnam

Vietnam’s cheapest city for backpackers is also one that gets high marks from most visitors with its unique combination of French colonial and Asian post-communism. The food is also top-notch, especially when you are sitting amongst locals at one of the thousands of plastic-chair cafes throughout the city. Keep costs even lower by sticking with Bia Hoi, the world’s cheapest beer. Hostel beds are cheap, but private rooms are too, so don’t automatically book a bunk.
  • Currency: Vietnamese dong
  • Cheap/good hostel: Moonshine Palace Hotel – 93,700/night
  • Transportation: 40,000
  • Meals: 144,000
  • Drinks/Entertainment: 36,000
  • Attractions: 30,000
  • Daily Backpacker Index: VND343,700 = US$16.51/day

5 – Chiang Mai, Thailand

Thailand’s “capital of the north” is certainly one of the world’s great travel bargain destinations. Filled with ancient temples and surrounded by a moat and city walls, Chiang Mai is a major stop in the region and a highlight for many. Much less crowded than Bangkok, and quite a bit cheaper as well, this is also booming with expats and creative people living cheaply while they work.
  • Currency: Thai baht
  • Cheap/good hostel: Jaidii House – 100/night
  • Transportation: 40
  • Meals: 162
  • Drinks/Entertainment: 180
  • Attractions: 100
  • Daily Backpacker Index: THB582 = US$19.11/day

All rights reserved.
Its very easy for new forex trading investors to get taken in by some sort of forex scam or another. This can include just about any idea under the sun that scammers can come up with. Usually the realm of forex scams can include, software and e-books that guarantee a profit in the forex market, an unscrupulous market maker that spikes costumer accounts so they can get their fees, general false advertising, and even those with fake sites that just take your money and disappear.

The nature of the currency market tends to leave new investors vulnerable to such scams,
simply because it fluctuates a lot and little is known about the market by the general population. Its up to investors to educate themselves on forex trading, just as they would before making any other investment if they expect to do well. This includes being aware of common scams. In 2001 the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) released nine tips investors in the forex market should keep in mind when looking for a broker:
Stay Away From Opportunities That are Too Good To Be True
Avoid Any Company that Predicts or Guarantees Large Profits
Stay Away From Companies That Promise Little or No Financial Risk
Be Wary of Trading on Margin Unless You Know What That Means
Be Wary of Those Claiming To Trade in the “Interbank Market” because Its Safer
Be Wary of Sending or Transferring Cash on the Internet, By Mail or Otherwise
Scams Often Target Members of Ethnic Minorities
Get the Company’s Performance Track Record
Anyone Who Won’t Give You Their Background Isn't Worth the Risk

Many forex scams, as is common with other types of scams, rely on getting dollar signs to appear in their victims eyes in order to pull off the scam. If at any point in the decision making process you start to feel yourself getting overly excited by the prospect of making what seems like easy money, then set your plans aside for the time being and come back to them later. You'll be much calmer and in a better position to decide if the broker or deal you are interested in is really worth it.
One of the most common scams simply involves selling a product or system online that will guaranteed make you profits in forex trading. Be careful of online advertisements for these products, after all most of them contain information about the forex market that you can obtain by reading any other book on forex trading. It will give you information on the forex market if you are doing research, but it probably wont give you the guaranteed secret to success.
-SJF Insider Opinion.-
Forex involves high risk . We consider this as SPECULATIVE INVESTMENT. The factors includes speculating the price movement based only on price without any proven fundamental factors.

Question coming from : Ms. Marilyn Vasquez, Hong kong
Question :
" I'm currently a OFW here in HONGKONG and i have small amount for TIME DEPOSIT .It gives small interest.I'm planning to invest in MUTUAL FUNDS.Just like to ask if it is right to invest now and how much i should invest?

Answer:

Thank you for your question .

Before we invest, we have to consider several factors. We always remember that all investment offer risk which you need to consider. Time deposit also offers risk. We call it Inflation risk.

Inflation is the rate of increase or decrease of service and goods. The more higher the inflation, the lesser the goods or service you can acquire with your money. If we consider investing at the moment, always remember to balance your current cash flow first. If we invested in the wrong time, this will destroy you rather than help you grow.

"is it right to invest now?"

There are lots of people saying that investing now is the perfect time due to market reaction to data but no one can tell when it will go down. We call this risk as Market risk. It is the result of specific data's and reports that can affect the current situation of a company. Issue like interest rate, political turmoil and other issues.

In my personal opinion, before considering investing, the person should consider first if he or she is in the right position. One wrong concept of filipino's are mostly investment is the only solution for growth. THIS IS WRONG. The right perspective would be the solution for growth is not investment but proper portfolio management.

SJF offers the right process in investing. We call this as SJF Investment Planning. It is a SJF Process which helps the client identify his or her current situation and see how much he or she can invest in a safer perspective.
We can compare this process as sacrifice 1 apple to gain 10 more apples.

Risking your life, Planning with brokers and Financial Advocates

Hard Facts about Personal Finance in the Philippines

We heard lots of financial advocacy online which promises help to individuals regarding their finances. We also hear some advocates selling books along with seminars but what is the real picture in personal finance?
The secret here is right application.
Personal finances are so broad. It talks about  your cash flow, taxes, insurance etc. which affects your personal growth and life.
The brokers and the advocates may help you but the main intention of these people is to offer  their products unconsciously. This is the reality when attending an advocate seminar. They offer  you the books and the products along with the seminar.

Bank Wealth management:

Wealth management in banks is very costly. First you need at least P1,000,000.00 to open a Private banking and thereafter they will assign a Wealth Manager to help you manage your investment and growth.

Advantage: Easy to invest.

Disadvantage: They only talk one sector which is Investment planning. They earn in all aspects. They promote their own materials, monitor your finances and study your capacity so they can give you MORE MATERIALS like credit cards and other investment materials even beyond your capacity.

Result: Limited growth all based on your bank's performance.

Insurance brokers bundle with financial planning : The suicide bundle

People think this is the most efficient and cheapest way to plan your life, Well this is the most SUICIDAL of them all. Always remember whatever they say, the number one objective is to sell you the product. They massage the brain using financial planning then give you the insurance.
Our profession  as Financial planner is very sensitive. It affects the whole life of a person. Giving Financial advice is very sensitive that it can change the course of your entire life. This is one thing Filipino's don't realize. They prefer SAVING MONEY rather than thinking about the result of the performance. They never realize, they spend MORE than they save. As one Filipino saying goes "matalino man ang matsing, naiisahan din".

Advantage: Easy to get insurance.

Disadvantage: Limited growth next to none. They earn through acquisition of insurance or mutual fund. Just look at the profession. You don't need to be a genius to know that the main reason is all about insurance. They mostly focus selling you the product and put their product to your portfolio rather than helping you.

Financial Advocates: The most suicide of them all.

If you will ask a Financial Advocate without proper training and background to help you plan your finances is like donating all your wealth to charity. These people claim to have vast knowledge regarding personal Finances through seminar and speaking engagements. The main objective of these people is again to sell you MORE PRODUCTS(books,Cd's,subscriptions etc.)

Advantage: Good motivators.

Disadvantage: No real training and formal education in personal finances. Your wealth is in high risk more than helping you get richer.
